It's mid-December and 2020 is coming to an end. For some, it has been an amazing year but for others not so much. One thing is for certain though and that is the fact that it has been a very different year for all of us and has come with its challenges but at the same time 2021 is only two weeks and a day a away (As of writing and publishing this blog on the 16th December 2020!) With this new year comes a new opportunity to set goals and achieve them, or maybe even fulfil goals that you had set for 2020 but were unable to achieve due to the current world situation.
In today's blog, we want to share with you some ideas and tips for setting goals and pursuing them to help to ensure that 2021 is both a successful and rewarding year as well as remind you that 2020 isn't over yet so there is still a chance to complete some of those remaining goals.
Review your goals as well as your objectives - Before you begin to start thinking about 2021 it is a good idea to have a think about how 2020 went for you. This is because by looking back at 2020 you will be able to see the areas of your life that you need to focus on improving in 2021.
Make sure that the goals that you set are SMART - SMART is an acronym:
S pecific - Specific is knowing exactly what your goal is?
M easurable - How will you measure your progress in achieving your goal?
A ttainable - Is your goal actually one which can be achieved?
R ealistic/relevant - Can you specifically achieve your goal? Is the goal worth the work?
T ime - What time frame have you allocated to achieving your goal?
Write down you goals and your objectives - By writing down both your business and personal goals for 2021 you will be able to remember the goals which you have set and the reasons why you want to achieve those goals. Good ways of writing down goals to remember them can include but are not limited to:
- Creating a blog in order to document your progress.
- Create a vision board.
- Place post-it notes around your home or office which list your goals for 2021.
- Place reminders in your phone, laptop or calendar.
- Be productive as this will keep your memory active and actively help you to achieve goals.
Create a plan to be able to reach your goals - One of the best ways to stay motivated to achieve your goals is to generate a plan on how you will succeed in reaching those goals. Furthermore, a plan can help you to feel on track of achieving your goals as instead of feeling all over the place you will know exactly where you are in progress and what your next step will be. A goal plan should detail the steps which you will need to take in order to succeed in reaching your goal as well as what will happen once you do reach each step.
Break your goals apart into smaller and more manageable goals - A year can feel as though it is a long time to reach your goals and if things get busy then you may begin to feel overwhelmed or forget about them. One of the best ways in which you can approach a big goal is to think of 12 separate goals that when together relate to the bigger, overall goal. We chose 12 because that's one small goal for each month of the year.
Keep track of the goals that you are setting yourself and if necessary make changes to them. - A key part of being successful and achieving your goals is to review your progress every so often. This self-progress review can be daily, weekly or monthly, all depending on what type of goal you have and what works the best for you. This is also a great way of knowing whether you are behind in progress or you need to make a change to part of your plan.
Find ways to motivate yourself to achieve your goals. - Motivation is one of the key things when it comes to keeping yourself going so that you do not want to quit. This will therefore play a key part in achieving your goals in 2021. However with this said, finding motivation can be a hard task for anyone. If you are having a hard time being able to find motivation, we have put together a short list of of ideas that can help to keep you motivated:
- Create a vision board and place it somewhere that you will see on a daily basis.
- Make achieving your goals a friendly competition.
- Find ways which you can reward yourself as you get closer to achieving your goal.
Make achieving your goals a friendly competition. - One of our personal favourite ways of achieving your goals and staying on track with them is to turn those goals into a competition between you and a friend or family member. This is a great way of achieving your goals as it means that you won't be doing it alone as you will have someone to talk to who is in a similar situation and who can push you to succeed and much much more.
We hope that this blog helped and gave you some ideas on achieving your goals and we hope that you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
