Driver CPC stands for Driver Certificate of Professional Competence. It is a qualification for professional bus, coach and lorry drivers. It was introduced across Europe with the aim of improving road safety and maintaining high standards of driving.
All drivers of lorries over 3.5 tonnes or Passenger Carrying Vehicles (PCV) with 9 or more seats must complete 35 hours of periodic training every five years. Periodic training is delivered through training courses attended over the five year period covered by the validity of their current CPC. Training courses are usually 7 hours long and courses must be approved by the DVSA (Formerly known as JAUPT).
